Gunner Olszewski
Gunner Olszewski Spends almost all of 2024 on IR
Thu, Jan 16, 2025, 10:22 PM
Olszewski didn't see any NFL action in 2024, as he injured his groin during warmups in Week 1 and spent the remainder of the campaign on injured reserve.
Analysis: Olszewski first hurt his groin during a training-camp practice in mid-August but appeared to have recovered enough to play in Week 1. However, he aggravated the issue ahead of the season-opener versus Minnesota and was never designated to return. Olszewski has only 15 career regular-season catches over 65 contests, but he's had ample NFL success as a returner. He's slated to be an unrestricted free agent and could draw interest from clubs looking to upgrade their special-teams unit.
Ihmir Smith-Marsette
Ihmir Smith-Marsette Thrives as NY's top returner
Thu, Jan 16, 2025, 10:10 PM
Smith-Marsette didn't record any targets or touches on offense in 2024, but he logged 381 yards and one touchdown on 11 kick returns along with 228 yards on 29 punt returns.
Analysis: The highlight of Smith-Marsette's season was a 100-yard kick return for a touchdown in Week 17 against Indianapolis. That was his second career TD as a returner -- the first came on a punt return for the Panthers in 2023. On offense, Smith-Marsette logged only six offensive snaps, and his path forward on an NFL roster may be tied to his skill set on special teams. He'll be an unrestricted free agent upon the start of the offseason.
Jalin Hyatt
Jalin Hyatt Regresses in second NFL campaign
Thu, Jan 16, 2025, 9:36 PM
Hyatt caught eight of 19 targets for 62 yards over 16 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: Though he struggled to produce as a rookie in 2023, Hyatt at least showed some flashes of potential. That wasn't really the case in 2024, as more than half of his season yardage total came in a Week 10 game against Carolina in which he posted a modest 39 receiving yards, and he didn't reach double-digit yards in any of his other 15 appearances. While the Giants didn't have a prolific passing game, it's illogical to attribute Hyatt's lack of growth entirely to the team's QB situation, as rookie sensation Malik Nabers managed 109 catches for 1,204 yards in the same offense. New York will likely have a new starting signal-caller in 2025, and veteran wideout Darius Slayton may not be back, which could improve Hyatt's outlook to some extent. However, Nabers will likely command a huge target share again in his sophomore campaign while Wan'Dale Robinson is set to return as the team's No. 2 receiver, which would leave Hyatt -- who will be in the third year of his rookie contract -- battling for looks as the third or fourth option in the WR pecking order.
Tommy DeVito
Tommy DeVito Plays in three games in 2024
Tue, Jan 14, 2025, 11:08 PM
DeVito saw action in three contests during the regular season, completing 31 of 44 passes for 257 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also carried eight times for 32 yards.
Analysis: DeVito made a very brief appearance Week 14 against New Orleans, taking one offensive snap without attempting a pass. His other two games were starts, and though he was relatively accurate with a 70 percent completion rate and didn't get picked off, he was quite conservative in averaging just 5.8 yards per attempt. DeVito's campaign was much less boisterous than the year prior, when he enjoyed a brief Cinderella run as a rookie in a fill-in role for Daniel Jones. DeVito will be an exclusive right free agent upon the beginning of the offseason, and the Giants are expected to bring him back, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. It's unclear where he'll stand in the QB pecking order, however, with both Drew Lock and Tim Boyle set to become unrestricted free agents and New York widely expected to upgrade at the position through trade, free agency, and/or the draft.
Daniel Bellinger
Daniel Bellinger Catches two passes in Week 18
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 12:55 PM
Bellinger reeled in both of his targets for nine yards Sunday in a 20-13 loss to Philadelphia. He finished the regular season with 14 receptions (on 17 targets) for 125 yards and no touchdowns.
Analysis: Bellinger ended the campaign in quiet fashion, recording less than 10 receiving yards in each of his final three games. The third-year pro looked as though he could take over the role as New York's No. 1 tight end after Darren Waller's offseason retirement, but that spot atop the pecking order ultimately was claimed by rookie fourth-round pick Theo Johnson until he landed on IR with a foot injury in early December. Bellinger did step in as the starter after Johnson's injury and posted eight catches for 80 yards in his first two games thereafter before the three-game fade. The organization seems to be high on Johnson, who was fairly productive after gaining his footing in the league, so Bellinger figures to move back to the No. 2 role next season in what will be the final year of his rookie contract.
Darius Slayton
Darius Slayton Catchless to conclude campaign
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 12:44 PM
Slayton did not catch his only target in a 20-13 Week 18 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday. He finished the regular season with 39 receptions (on 70 targets) for 573 yards and two touchdowns along with two rushes for 17 yards.
Analysis: In what may have been Slayton's final game with the Giants, he actually led the team's wideouts with 48 offensive snaps but had just one pass thrown his way by QB Drew Lock. The lack of production has been typical for the veteran wideout of late. After catching four passes for 108 yards against Pittsburgh in Week 8, Slayton didn't exceed three receptions or 49 yards in any of his final eight contests. He came into 2024 having paced New York in receiving yards each of the previous two campaigns, but it was clear that there was going to be a changing of the guard after the Giants drafted Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 Draft. The passing of the torch did indeed take place -- Nabers enjoyed a massive rookie campaign, catching 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns -- and Slayton slipped to No. 3 in the wideout pecking order behind Wan'Dale Robinson, who ranked second on New York in targets, catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Slayton will be a free agent after the conclusion of the campaign and could seek to join a new organization with the Giants embarking upon a rebuild.
Devin Singletary
Devin Singletary Unproductive in season finale
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 12:11 PM
Singletary carried seven times for 22 yards and caught his only target for a five-yard loss in Sunday's 20-13 Week 18 loss against the Eagles. He concluded the campaign with 113 rushes for 437 yards and four touchdowns along with 21 receptions (on 24 targets) for 119 yards over 15 games.
Analysis: As has been the case for the majority of the campaign, Singletary worked well behind rookie RB Tyrone Tracy, who logged a 60 percent offensive snap share to the veteran's 30 percent mark. Singletary was brought in during the offseason to potentially serve as a workhorse back after the departure of Saquon Barkley to Philadelphia, but Singletary didn't log double-digit carries in any game after Week 4 and tallied 30 or fewer total yards in six of his final seven contests. Instead, it was Tracy who took hold of the starting running back role for the Giants, and that figures to be the case again next season. Singletary has two years remaining on his three-year, $16.5 million deal, so he figures to be back with New York for the 2025 campaign as the No. 2 option in the team's backfield.
Chris Manhertz
Chris Manhertz Getting surgery on finger
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 9:41 AM
Manhertz will undergo surgery Thursday to address ligament ruptures in one of his fingers, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Manhertz presumably suffered the injury to his finger during Sunday's game at Philadelphia. His next chance to play will come in 2025, and he wraps up this season with three catches for 30 yards and a touchdown on four targets.
Wan'Dale Robinson
Wan'Dale Robinson Ten catches in Sunday's win
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 8:49 PM
Robinson caught 10 of 11 targets for 43 yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: It's the second time this season Robinson has had double-digit receptions, but the volume once again didn't lead to much real production. The third-year slot receiver put together a career-best campaign in 2024, hauling in 93 passes for 699 yards and three TDs on 140 targets, and he proved to be an effective underneath complement to Malik Nabers. The duo will almost certainly have a new QB in 2025, whether one is acquired using the third overall pick in next year's draft, via free agency or in a trade, but Robinson's role in the offense as a possession option and chain-mover seems secure.
Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers Finds end zone in finale
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 8:43 PM
Nabers caught five of eight targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: The rookie wideout appeared headed for a quiet afternoon until he connected with Drew Lock for a 45-yard score in the fourth quarter. Nabers led all first-year wide receivers with 109 receptions (and briefly held an NFL rookie record for all pass catchers with that total until Las Vegas tight end Brock Bowers, who finished with 112 catches, surpassed him later Sunday) in only 15 appearances, turning them into 1,204 yards and seven TDs on 170 targets -- second in the entire NFL in target volume behind Ja'Marr Chase's 175. Those numbers are even more impressive when you factor in the QB turmoil the Giants went through in 2024, and if the team can bring in a new long-term starter this offseason to develop some chemistry with Nabers, he could deliver truly elite numbers across the board in 2025.
Tyrone Tracy
Tyrone Tracy Leading rusher in Sunday's loss
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 8:38 PM
Tracy carried the ball 14 times for 59 yards and caught both his targets for seven yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: The rookie running back wrapped up a solid first NFL season that established him as a capable replacement for Saquon Barkley. Despite the fact that he didn't see double-digit touches in a game until Week 5, Tracy finished the campaign with 1,123 scrimmage yards over 17 appearances, six total TDs and a 4.4 YPC. The Giants' offense figures to look different in 2025, starting with a new quarterback, but Tracy's role at the top of the backfield depth chart appears secure.
Drew Lock
Drew Lock Struggles in Week 18 loss
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 8:34 PM
Lock completed 22 of 29 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Eagles. He added three rushing yards on two carries.
Analysis: Even against a Philly defense resting multiple starters ahead of the playoffs, Lock couldn't get much going, although he did connect with Malik Nabers for a 45-yard TD in the fourth quarter as the Giants tried to mount a comeback from a 17-3 deficit. The Giants ended the regular season in line to pick third overall in the 2025 Draft, putting them in position to potentially select a new franchise quarterback, but even if they don't, Lock seems unlikely to return to New York in free agency. The 28-year-old completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,071 yards and a 6:5 TD:INT over eight appearances in 2024.
Tim Boyle
Tim Boyle Emergency QB for Week 18
Sun, Jan 5, 2025, 10:53 AM
Boyle (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Boyle will serve as the Giants' third-string emergency quarterback Sunday behind starter Drew Lock and backup Tommy DeVito. Boyle will only be allowed to see the field if both Lock and DeVito were to exit the game due to injury, illness or ejection.
Bryce Ford-Wheaton
Bryce Ford-Wheaton Playing in Week 18
Fri, Jan 3, 2025, 1:52 PM
Ford-Wheaton (shoulder) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Eagles, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old wideout began the Giants' week of practice with back-to-back limited sessions due to a shoulder injury sustained in early December. Ford-Wheaton then upgraded to full participation Friday, suggesting he's recovered from the issue enough to suit up in Week 18. The West Virginia product has played almost strictly on special teams this season and is expected to reprise that role in Sunday's divisional matchup.
Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers Cleared to play
Fri, Jan 3, 2025, 1:20 PM
Nabers (toe) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Nabers was added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant, after playing through the same toe injury last week and putting up a 7-171-2 receiving line against Indianapolis. He'll close out his rookie season against a Philadelphia defense that's arguably been the best in the league this season but likely will be resting a lot of key players this week.
Bryce Ford-Wheaton
Bryce Ford-Wheaton Limited in Thursday's practice
Thu, Jan 2, 2025, 5:18 PM
Ford-Wheaton (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Ford-Wheaton has been limited in the first two practices of the week due to a shoulder injury that he played through in the Giants' Week 17 win over the Colts. He would likely avoid an injury designation ahead of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Eagles if he were to fully participate in Friday's practice. Ford-Wheaton has been mostly limited to special teams across 13 regular-season games.
Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers Still battling toe injury
Thu, Jan 2, 2025, 2:24 PM
Nabers was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice due to a toe injury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Nabers' name wasn't included Wednesday on the Giants' initial Week 18 injury report, but he had his reps capped Thursday on account of the same toe issue that kept him off the field for two practices a week ago and limited him in another. The rookie wideout ended up carrying a questionable tag into last weekend's 45-33 win over the Colts, but he suited up and finished with seven catches for a career-high 171 yards and two touchdowns on eight targets. The Giants haven't clarified whether Nabers' addition to the injury report Thursday was the result of an aggravation of the toe injury or a matter of maintenance, but either way, his status now bears watching heading into Sunday's season finale at Philadelphia.
Bryce Ford-Wheaton
Bryce Ford-Wheaton Logs limited session Wednesday
Wed, Jan 1, 2025, 3:06 PM
Ford-Wheaton (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old played through a shoulder injury in the Giants' Week 17 win over the Colts, and Wednesday's limited practice session suggests he's still nursing the issue. Ford-Wheaton's participation Thursday and Friday will likely offer the best insight into whether he can suit up in Week 18, when the Giants travel to Philadelphia.
Darius Slayton
Darius Slayton Makes most of only catch Sunday
Sun, Dec 29, 2024, 9:54 PM
Slayton caught one of three targets for a 32-yard touchdown in Sunday's 45-33 Week 17 win against the Colts.
Analysis: Slayton continued what is now a six-game stretch with two or fewer catches, though Sunday's performance ranked as his best across that span thanks to the 32-yard touchdown the veteran wideout grabbed in the second quarter. That score was Slayton's first since Week 5 and just his second overall this season. The 27-year-old heads into New York's season finale with just 39 catches for 573 yards on the campaign -- unless he has a huge performance Week 18 against the Eagles, Slayton will finish with his second-fewest receptions and receiving yards over his six-year career.
Devin Singletary
Devin Singletary Tallies 30 total yards in Week 17
Sun, Dec 29, 2024, 9:47 PM
Singletary rushed five times for 21 yards and caught his only target for nine yards in Sunday's 45-33 victory over Indianapolis.
Analysis: Singletary once again worked well behind rookie Tyrone Tracy, who out-touched the veteran back 22-6. Singletary was mostly bottled up on his five carries, with the exception being a 13-yard rush in the second quarter. The 27-year-old has logged 25 or fewer rushing yards in each of his past six contests, giving him a low ceiling heading into next weekend's season finale versus Philadelphia.
