Chris Manhertz Returns to field
Wed, May 28, 2025, 5:32 PM
Manhertz (finger) participated in Wednesday's practice, Anne-Marie Caruso of NorthJersey.com reports.
Analysis: Manhertz underwent surgery after sustaining a finger injury in the Giants' 2024 season finale, but it now appears he's moved past the issue. The 33-year-old from Canisius appeared in all 17 of New York's games last season, catching three passes for 30 yards and one touchdown across 329 offensive snaps. He's expected to remain one of the team's top reserve tight ends in 2025.
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson Ready for start of OTAs
Wed, May 28, 2025, 10:39 AM
Johnson (foot) is working with the Giant's first-team offense and new quarterback Russell Wilson at OTAs on Wednesday, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
Analysis: New York officially kicked off OTAs on Tuesday, but reporters were not allowed in attendance until Wednesday's session, in which Paul Schwartz of the New York Post spotted the second-year tight end taking part in drills without any apparent issues. A 2024 fourth-round pick, Johnson quickly emerged as the Giants' top tight end in his rookie campaign following the offseason retirement of Darren Waller. He logged 29 catches for 331 yards and one score (43 targets) across 12 regular-season appearances before a Lisfranc injury forced him to undergo surgery and spend the final five games on IR. Now healthy, Johnson will work with new quarterbacks Wilson, Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart to attempt to solidify himself as a reliable receiving option behind top wideout Malik Nabers (toe).
Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers Nursing toe issue at OTAs
Wed, May 28, 2025, 9:20 AM
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Nabers (toe) did not participate in OTAs on Wednesday due to an injury that dates back to college, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
Analysis: Daboll specified that Nabers did not have any sort of offseason procedure and simply needs rest due to a toe issue he dealt with both in college and his rookie season, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. The team will take it slow with the 2024 first-rounder, prioritizing his readiness for training camp. After compiling a 109-1,204-7 receiving line on a whopping 170 targets across his 15-game rookie season, Nabers' elite potential makes him a lock to be one of the first wideouts selected off the board in 2025 fantasy drafts. The fact that any or all of current starting favorite Russell Wilson, rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart and veteran backup Jameis Winston could all see time under center for New York this season throws something of a wrench into the mix, but even a quarterback carrousel would represent an upgrade over Nabers' situation last year.
Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson Remains entrenched atop depth chart
Thu, May 22, 2025, 10:25 AM
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Thursday that Wilson will take the team's first-team reps to begin OTAs and is expected to start Week 1, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Wilson remains in relatively clear position to kick off the 2025 regular season under center for New York after inking a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the team in March. The Giants' offseason approach is shaping up to be far less of a quarterback competition than the selection of Jaxon Dart in the first round of April's draft, at 25th overall, might indicate. Carroll speculates that Wilson's one-year deal positions him as a clear bridge quarterback for 2025, while Jameis Winston's two-year contract gives New York another established veteran as starter insurance for 2025 and a player capable of acting as either competition or a backup for Dart down the line. If Wilson is able to capably pilot Daboll's offense and keep New York relatively competitive, at least in line with expectations, he figures to retain a strong grip on the No. 1 gig, but it also wouldn't take more than a handful of early-season duds for pressure to mount.
Lil'Jordan Humphrey
Lil'Jordan Humphrey Back with Big Blue
Mon, May 12, 2025, 2:05 PM
The Giants re-signed Humphrey on Monday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: The Texas product was dropped by the Giants just three days ago, but it now appears the team has decided to bring him back to New York. Humphrey appeared in all 17 of the Broncos' regular-season contests in 2024, catching 31 of his 45 targets for 293 yards and one touchdown. With the Giants' limited depth depth at wide receiver, Humphrey will likely have the opportunity to compete for a reserve role on offense this summer.
Tyrone Tracy
Tyrone Tracy Joined by Skattebo in backfield
Mon, Apr 28, 2025, 12:32 PM
The Giants drafted RB Cam Skattebo at No. 105 overall to compete with Tracy and Devin Singletary, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra.
Analysis: Taken 166th overall a year earlier, Tracy never looked back after Singletary's groin injury opened up a starting job Week 5. Tracy started 12 of 13 games from that point forward and averaged 4.4 YPC for the season, despite being stuck in a brutal offense, with the main negatives being five fumbles and five drops. He's the favorite to start Week 1, but it may be an open competition this summer, considering Singletary has a respectable track record as an NFL starter and Skattebo exploded for 2,316 yards from scrimmage at Arizona State last year. Speed is the obvious advantage for Tracy, a former college wideout who ran a 4.48 40 at 5-foot-11, 209 pounds. Singletary ran a 4.66 before he was drafted six years ago, and Skattebo was timed around 4.6 or 4.65 at his pro day this spring.
Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson Joining Big Blue
Tue, Mar 25, 2025, 5:56 PM
The Giants and Wilson agreed to a one-year contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Giants have been in search of a new starting quarterback since moving on from Daniel Jones last season, and Wilson seemingly will be the choice for them, at least initially in 2025, even with fellow offseason signing Jameis Winston on the roster and the draft still to come. Wilson will receive $10.5 million guaranteed upon signing with the potential to make $21 million this season. In 11 regular-season appearances (all starts) in his only campaign with the Steelers in 2024, he completed 214 of 336 passes (63.7 percent) for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, had 43 carries for 155 yards and two more TDs and fumbled five times (four lost).
Zach Pascal
Zach Pascal Moving to NFC East
Sat, Mar 22, 2025, 12:10 PM
Pascal and the Giants have agreed upon a one-year contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With New York, Pascal will get to reunite with wide receivers coach Mike Groh, who was on the Colts' staff during Pascal's final two seasons in Indianapolis. The veteran wideout has seen his role shift in recent campaigns, as Pascal logged more snaps on special teams than on offense each of the past two years while with Arizona -- in fact, he played in all 17 of the Cardinals' contests last season but didn't see a target in the passing game. Pascal could fill a similar role with the Giants, though he should at least get a chance to compete for a depth receiver role during training camp.
Jameis Winston
Jameis Winston Joining G-Men
Fri, Mar 21, 2025, 6:57 PM
Winston and the Giants are finalizing a two-year, $8 million contract, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: Per Schultz, the contract could be worth up to $16 million with incentives. Winston stepped into a starting role for the Browns last season after Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles, and he finished the campaign with 2,121 passing yards on a 61 percent completion rate and a 13:12 TD:INT over 12 contests while adding 83 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. For the time being, Winston looks to be in line for a starting role with New York, though the team could still pursue another quarterback in free agency or the draft given Tommy DeVito is the only other QB currently under contract. If Winston does land the starting role, he'll have one of the league's most talented young wideouts in Malik Nabers to throw the ball to, though turnovers have frequently been a flaw in Winston's game as evidenced by his 154:111 TD:INT over 105 regular-season contests. Winston missed the end of the 2024 regular season with a right shoulder injury, but that no longer seems to be a concern considering the Giants' willingness to hand him a potentially central role from the outset of the 2025 campaign.
Lil'Jordan Humphrey
Lil'Jordan Humphrey Finds new team
Fri, Mar 21, 2025, 1:55 PM
The Giants signed Humphrey on Friday.
Analysis: Humphrey is coming off a 2024 regular season in which he recorded a career-high 31 receptions on 45 targets for 293 yards and a touchdown in 17 games with the Broncos. At 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, the 26-year-old will add size and experience to a Giants wideout corps that also includes Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt. However, in his new locale, Humphrey could see a dip in volume in 2025.
Ihmir Smith-Marsette
Ihmir Smith-Marsette Returning to Big Blue
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 3:44 PM
The Giants re-signed Smith-Marsette on Wednesday.
Analysis: Smith-Marsette served as the Giants primary return man in 2024, accumulating 381 kick-return yards -- including an 100-yard touchdown in Week 17 -- and 228 punt-return yards across 15 appearances. Now that he's officially returning to New York, the Iowa product is expected to serve as the team's return specialist in 2025 while also competing for a depth role at wide receiver throughout the summer.
Darius Slayton
Darius Slayton Staying in New York
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 6:03 PM
Slayton re-signed with the Giants on a three-year, $36 million contract Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Slayton will remain with the only organization he's known since being selected in the fifth round of the 2019 Draft. Through six seasons, he's surpassed 700 receiving yards four times and 40 catches on four occasions while scoring 21 touchdowns in 92 regular-season games. The primary question mark is who will be throwing passes to Slayton and fellow WRs Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson in 2025, as Tommy DeVito currently is the only QB under contract with the Giants.
Chris Manhertz
Chris Manhertz Staying with Giants
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 5:42 PM
Manhertz (finger) and the Giants agreed to a one-year contract Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Manhertz played in all 17 regular-season games in 2024 and finished with three catches (on four targets) for 30 yards and one touchdown. He suffered ligament ruptures to his finger in Week 18 against the Eagles, but he is expected to be available for offseason programming after undergoing surgery to repair the issue.
Tommy DeVito
Tommy DeVito Staying with Big Blue
Sat, Mar 8, 2025, 11:17 AM
The Giants re-signed DeVito on Saturday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: DeVito appeared in three games (including two starts) during the 2024 regular season and completed 31 of 44 passes for 257 yards with zero touchdowns while adding eight carries for 32 yards. With Drew Lock and Tim Boyle expected to hit free agency, DeVito is the only QB currently under contract with the Giants, though New York is expected to sign a veteran quarterback like Aaron Rodgers or Sam Darnold in free agency or target younger options like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Montrell Washington
Montrell Washington Inks future deal with Big Blue
Fri, Feb 14, 2025, 6:23 PM
The Giants signed Washington to a reserve/future contract Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Washington spent most of the 2024 season on the Chiefs' practice squad after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp in late August. The 2022 fifth-round pick will be on the Giants' 90-man roster for the start of the new league year, which will give him a chance to participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp.
Gunner Olszewski
Gunner Olszewski Spends almost all of 2024 on IR
Thu, Jan 16, 2025, 10:22 PM
Olszewski didn't see any NFL action in 2024, as he injured his groin during warmups in Week 1 and spent the remainder of the campaign on injured reserve.
Analysis: Olszewski first hurt his groin during a training-camp practice in mid-August but appeared to have recovered enough to play in Week 1. However, he aggravated the issue ahead of the season-opener versus Minnesota and was never designated to return. Olszewski has only 15 career regular-season catches over 65 contests, but he's had ample NFL success as a returner. He's slated to be an unrestricted free agent and could draw interest from clubs looking to upgrade their special-teams unit.
Ihmir Smith-Marsette
Ihmir Smith-Marsette Thrives as NY's top returner
Thu, Jan 16, 2025, 10:10 PM
Smith-Marsette didn't record any targets or touches on offense in 2024, but he logged 381 yards and one touchdown on 11 kick returns along with 228 yards on 29 punt returns.
Analysis: The highlight of Smith-Marsette's season was a 100-yard kick return for a touchdown in Week 17 against Indianapolis. That was his second career TD as a returner -- the first came on a punt return for the Panthers in 2023. On offense, Smith-Marsette logged only six offensive snaps, and his path forward on an NFL roster may be tied to his skill set on special teams. He'll be an unrestricted free agent upon the start of the offseason.
Jalin Hyatt
Jalin Hyatt Regresses in second NFL campaign
Thu, Jan 16, 2025, 9:36 PM
Hyatt caught eight of 19 targets for 62 yards over 16 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: Though he struggled to produce as a rookie in 2023, Hyatt at least showed some flashes of potential. That wasn't really the case in 2024, as more than half of his season yardage total came in a Week 10 game against Carolina in which he posted a modest 39 receiving yards, and he didn't reach double-digit yards in any of his other 15 appearances. While the Giants didn't have a prolific passing game, it's illogical to attribute Hyatt's lack of growth entirely to the team's QB situation, as rookie sensation Malik Nabers managed 109 catches for 1,204 yards in the same offense. New York will likely have a new starting signal-caller in 2025, and veteran wideout Darius Slayton may not be back, which could improve Hyatt's outlook to some extent. However, Nabers will likely command a huge target share again in his sophomore campaign while Wan'Dale Robinson is set to return as the team's No. 2 receiver, which would leave Hyatt -- who will be in the third year of his rookie contract -- battling for looks as the third or fourth option in the WR pecking order.
Tommy DeVito
Tommy DeVito Plays in three games in 2024
Tue, Jan 14, 2025, 11:08 PM
DeVito saw action in three contests during the regular season, completing 31 of 44 passes for 257 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also carried eight times for 32 yards.
Analysis: DeVito made a very brief appearance Week 14 against New Orleans, taking one offensive snap without attempting a pass. His other two games were starts, and though he was relatively accurate with a 70 percent completion rate and didn't get picked off, he was quite conservative in averaging just 5.8 yards per attempt. DeVito's campaign was much less boisterous than the year prior, when he enjoyed a brief Cinderella run as a rookie in a fill-in role for Daniel Jones. DeVito will be an exclusive right free agent upon the beginning of the offseason, and the Giants are expected to bring him back, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. It's unclear where he'll stand in the QB pecking order, however, with both Drew Lock and Tim Boyle set to become unrestricted free agents and New York widely expected to upgrade at the position through trade, free agency, and/or the draft.
Daniel Bellinger
Daniel Bellinger Catches two passes in Week 18
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 12:55 PM
Bellinger reeled in both of his targets for nine yards Sunday in a 20-13 loss to Philadelphia. He finished the regular season with 14 receptions (on 17 targets) for 125 yards and no touchdowns.
Analysis: Bellinger ended the campaign in quiet fashion, recording less than 10 receiving yards in each of his final three games. The third-year pro looked as though he could take over the role as New York's No. 1 tight end after Darren Waller's offseason retirement, but that spot atop the pecking order ultimately was claimed by rookie fourth-round pick Theo Johnson until he landed on IR with a foot injury in early December. Bellinger did step in as the starter after Johnson's injury and posted eight catches for 80 yards in his first two games thereafter before the three-game fade. The organization seems to be high on Johnson, who was fairly productive after gaining his footing in the league, so Bellinger figures to move back to the No. 2 role next season in what will be the final year of his rookie contract.
